PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Vets to Washington Project,founded in Augusta, Georgia, provides trips
for World War II veterans and their spouses to view the memorials in Washington D.C.;and ■
WHEREAS, there have been over one thousand people that have traveled to our nation's
capitol with The Vets to Washington Project;and
WHEREAS, there have been 18 trips made as of this date; and
WHEREAS, the mission is to ensure that every World War II veteran that is capable of
making the trip is afforded the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and tour the World War II Memorial built
in honor of their service and sacrifice; and

WHEREAS, The Vets to Washington Project is funded through the generosity of small
business owners, civic organizations, and individual citizens that wish to honor veterans for their service to
our country;and )
WHEREAS, men and women from every branch of the military and the Merchant Marines
have participated; and
i WHEREAS, the statement "we leave as strangers, but return home family" is shared by
many;and
WHEREAS, as the "Greatest Generation that ever lived" with veterans from the Korean
I Conflict and the Vietnam War spend a weekend together in our nation's capitol sharing memories, and
I building new friendships; every effort by the volunteer staff go into making this weekend, a weekend they will
never forget.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Lark W.Jones,Mayor of the City of North Augusta, South Carolina,
do hereby proclaim July 13, 2013, as "Vets to Washington Reunion Day" in North Augusta, South Carolina,
and urge all citizens to recognize and applaud the efforts of this organization for nine years of service to "The
Greatest Generation"and veterans in the Central Savannah River Area.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of
