IN RECOGNITION OF WORD POWER MINISTRY'S EIGHTH ANNUAL
MMEMORATIVE CELEBRATION SERVICE FOR DR.MARTIN LUTHER IVIG,JR.
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in
Atla aa, Georgia, and died on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, the Dr.King, a giant of the Civil Rights Movement, lifted the quiet hopes of our
Nati with his powerful voice and pen. From behind his pulpit in Montgomery,Alabama, at the podium
on t National Mall, and from his jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, he led this nation toward justice
thro i h non-violent resistance and oratory skill;and
WHEREAS,the Dr.King,shared his dream with the world from atop the steps ofthe Lincoln
Mer,i,irial and gave voice to our founding ideals;and
WHEREAS,seldom rises such a mot;willing to suer physical abuse, verbal degradation,
and f iy down his life to eliminate social injustice through peacefid means; and
WHEREAS,we are forever indebted to Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr., a caring-pastor, a true
inn ritarum, and a gifted leader, is recognized for his fight for racial and economic justice and lauded
for nonviolent approach to civil disobedience;and
WHEREAS, it is proper and fitting to highlight the life of a man who profoundly impacted
the I itire nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert A. Pettit, Mayor of the City of North Augusta, South

hisk.. e and legacy. We honor him for his powerful use at words and his acts of nonviolent resistance and
rect i mize and applaud his spiritual and civic leadership.
